About Us:
The Travel Bug is a woman and queer owned business based out of St. John’s, Newfoundland. We opened our doors in 2005 and have been proudly growing ever since. We expanded in 2017 to include our sister store, The Bee’s Knees, right next door. We aim to create an inclusive and diverse space and are actively 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly, wheelchair accessible, and community focused. We employ approximately a dozen staff who help run the shop smoothly on a daily basis and provide our customers with a large array of advice and knowledge. Our goal is to provide customers locally and online with access to high quality, ethically sourced, and sustainable products.
About The Shops:
The Travel Bug and The Bee's Knees are located at 197-199 Water Street in downtown St. John’s. We are housed in a heritage building that sits in one of the oldest cities in North America. St. John's also happens to be one of the most easterly spots on the continent. The front of our building made of brick with granite columns and grey granite dressing stone and was originally built by William J Ellis, over 100 years ago. In 1997, this building was awarded the Southcott Award for Restoration by the Newfoundland Historic Trust. Read more about our building here. We are currently open every day, Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sundays 12pm to 5pm, excluding public holidays.
There is on-street parking available on and around Water Street that has a three hour limit. It is monitored by parking attendants during the week, and it is free on weekends. You can find out more about parking from the city website.
About the Product:
The goal of The Travel Bug is to provide customers with convenient travel tools and tips that contribute to a more sustainable, conscious, and enjoyable travel experience. We carry a large variety of products sourced from Newfoundland, Canada, and abroad. We are always here to assist you with any travel questions you may have for local trips or international ones.
We sell some of the top brands in luggage, bags, and other travel accessories. We are also one of the largest local author retailers in St. John’s.
The goal of The Bee's Knees is to bring locally made, ethically sourced, low waste and earth friendly options to the area. We focus primarily on goods for your home, kitchen, bath with options for children too. We also have an in-store refill station for a variety of soaps. We are happy to help you navigate the world of low waste living and always encourage customer questions!
Many of the brands we carry are certified B-Corp, 1% For The Planet, Fair Trade, and/or Certified Cruelty Free, along with a few other sustainability certifications. Keep an eye out for those markers on our products while shopping in store and online!
